AFLCYHF is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Receipt and registered with the Australian Non-for-Profit and Charities Commission.

AFLCYHF is about sustaining opportunity; opportunities that allow AFL Cape York Ltd to provide wrap-around service that supports Young People to transition into Education, Work and/or Tertiary Levels of Education.

Sustaining such a comprehensive support is a financial challenge. For a Young Person to reside in our care; the following occurs;

  • Families can apply for the ABSTUDY ‘Living Away From Home Benefit’ – if their combined income is less than $44,000, however the funds (benefit) decrease when income increases.
  • This means that for families where the parents are employed, active and contributing members of their community, the cost of having to send their children away for a secondary education can be paralysing when also considering that living remotely increases the cost of living to families of up to 15-25% more than in urban areas.
  • For Young People to attain equity within the education and boarding space, more needs to be done to provide for them so they can participate in all areas of school on a level playing field with other students.

AFLCYHF Governance

Our governance framework is strong, built on integrity, diversity engagement and inclusiveness which has enabled us to have successful outcomes supported by Local, State and Federal governments. The next stage for the Foundation is to build corporate and philanthropy relationships so that we can take up further opportunities. It is critical to build a sustained funding base that will enable the provision of services to more students and families. This is where AFL Cape York House Foundation steps in.

We are proud of the achievements of our young people and keen to ensure that we can continue to create opportunities, build capacity and deliver positive outcomes for our young people so that they have a rewarding life and can contribute to the wellbeing of their own community and the broader Australian community.

We value this support which has helped our young people achieve so much and we believe it is important for us to be proactive and to build a sustainable funding base that will allow many more young people to enjoy the same benefits and the opportunity for positive futures.
